Barack Obama a Shopping Cart with a Bum Wheel

Slide1Anyone who has ever gone to a grocery store understands what its like to get an uncooperative shopping cart.  You arrive at the store.  The place is packed.  You look around the parking lot and find one, lone shopping cart.   You grab it and start to push realizing that the wheel is bent or doesn’t turn properly. You have to make it work because there are no other carts in the lot or in the store …you’re stuck with it.

You have specific shopping goals.  Your plan is to shop around the outside of the grocery store, vegetables, fruit, dairy and healthy food.  The shopping cart has other ideas.  You push right, it pulls you left – in order to get it to go in the direction you want it to go is an exercise in frustration, strength, determination and commitment.

That is exactly the position this country finds itself in right now.  We have a President in the White House who can be likened to a shopping cart with a bum wheel. Thanks to the crowd that took to the store on November 4th, Obama is the cart we’ve been dealt and the direction he wants to take us in is left, left and hard left.  His wheels are so gummed up with radical, left wing liberal junk that they have a mind and destination of their own.

Obama is attempting to pilot us down the aisle to buy radical products whose purchase will deny freedom, liberty and identity as a nation.  He is determined, no matter how many times the polls, Town Hall meetings or public opinion attempt to straighten the bum wheel…he bends left and promptly returns the wheels on his cart to the position he’s most comfortable with LEFT.

Barack wants us to not only purchase and adopt his choices, but his goal is to steer our cart out into the parking lot and compel us to take home and ingest the garbage food of  substandard policies.  His hope is that after being forced fed, our nation will be transformed from  a healthy, democracy into a pathetic, mediocre country politically resembling Renee Williams – obese, but malnourished on the fat of government control, intrusion and socialistic style programs.

We’re pushing — but Obama is one unrelentent shopping cart…dead set on maneuvering us where he wants us to go rather than where our citizens want and should go. We say check-out, he moves toward the frozen food aisle. America, a  high quality nation, is being subjected to substandard president who is desirous of guiding us in the direction of policies that are like spray cheese, Cocoa Puffs and stomach lining eroding Coca-cola.  Obama, the shopping cart with the bum wheel, is dictating America away from the grapes and avocados and insisting we move toward the Doritos.

Just like a persistent shopper who won’t be dictated to by an uncooperative shopping cart, America has decided she will put some muscle behind the pushcart and force it to go in the direction she wants it to go.  Americans are resourceful; in order to get the job done we’ll lift the front of the cart and roll it on three wheels if need be.    Based on the wave of Democratic fervor, patriotism, outrage and ire, which seems to have taken hold — Obama’s fatty sparerib obsessed shopping cart will be heading toward the low fat Greek yogurt, like it or not.

Barack Obama isn’t complying easily and is stubbornly pointing down the aisle with the rat poison, cheap dog food and flammable oven cleaner – but Americans aren’t buying.  Maybe the Dictator-in-Chief needs to be reminded by those with the Constitutional shopping list, we are the ones in charge. In case you’re unaware Mr. President, the cart doesn’t decree the direction – the cart serves at our disposal and works for us.

So, Barack Obama can keep pushing his radical agenda by trying to steer us in the wrong direction.  He can also enjoy the power while it lasts, because according to his swift decline in public opinion it looks as if in 2012 it is highly likely Obama may find himself and his rusty wheels retired from the grocery store and upside down in the political bum cart dumpster!

  7. Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent politicians are better representing the views of everyday Australians, unlike the two-party-dominated system in the
    United States.

The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response to
podcast host Joe Rogan  complaining that Americans
were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’.

‘We have the same sort of situation, but we have a very interesting thing that’s happening in Australia at the moment, which is the rise
    of independents,’ Crowe countered.

‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those independents have
to bring a non-party-line series of points to the argument.

‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us. In that it’s making both of the
main parties re-examine who they are and what they stand for.

Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’, highlighting how US politics is completely dominated by the
    Democrat and Republican parties.

There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform parties, but these receive vanishingly few votes in comparison.

Independent candidates can also stand and have been known to perform well on occasion.

The Oscar-winning actor (pictured ) made the observation in response to podcast host Joe Rogan who complained that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’

Joe Rogan (pictured) is one of the most powerful media figures in the world

Civil rights opponent George Wallace ran a third-party campaign in the 1968 US election which saw
him garner 10 million votes and take five southern states,
while another disaffected Democrat, Strom Thurmond, in 1948 carried four southern states on a similarly racist platform but with only a
    million votes.

The nephew of a president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was poised
to get on the ballot in dozens of states as an independent
candidate before he pulled out and backed Republican Donald Trump.

He has now been appointed Health secretary in Trump’s incoming cabinet.

Trump himself had previously belonged to the Reform Party.

The former New York property developer had even considered
running for president in the 2000 election under the
banner of that movement – formed by former third-party presidential candidate Ross Perot, who won 19 per cent of the
popular vote in 1992 but gained no electoral college votes.

Perot was the most popular minority party candidate since
former Republican president Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 ran as the
Bull Moose Party candidate – carrying six states including California and coming second ahead of Republican William Taft.

Australia has seen a rise in recent years of nominally independent politicians who have taken votes
away from the two traditional parties of Labor
    and the Liberal-National coalition

This situation is helped by a strong Green party who now have 12 senators and four members in the House
    of Representatives.

Zali Steggall (pictured) became the first ‘teal’ independent to achieve huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat
in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election

Meanwhile, independent candidates who run on strong climate platforms but are fiscally
conservative have been labelled ‘teal’ candidates.

This is because they have combined their ‘green’ views on climate with
the traditional ‘blue’ approach of the centre-right Liberal Party
    on economics.

Zali Steggall became the first teal independent to achieve huge success when she ousted former prime
minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s
northern beaches at the 2019 election.

In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal seat
from former treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022 election.

She was one of seven teals elected, swelling the lower house crossbench to 16, with this
tally including the four Greens, three conservative independents
and progressives Andrew Wilkie and Helen Haines.

Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which was first aired in August,
has recently resurfaced in teal social media adverts.

They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who founded
Climate 200, which has given campaign funding to some teal candidates.

Not all the 12 independents elected in 2022 were teals, however.

Maverick independent Bob Katter has just celebrated 50 years in parliament (pictured:
being congratulated by prime minister Anthony Albanese)

Dai Lee, a former state Liberal candidate, defeated former Labor frontbencher and former NSW Labor premier Kristina Keneally in the south-west Sydney seat of
    Fowler.

And, of course, maverick Bob Katter who has just celebrated 50
years in parliament, spending 20 years as
a Queensland state MP before serving the
past three decades in federal parliament as the MP
for the regional far north Queensland electorate of Kennedy.

Among his many mad-hat policies over the years include a bid to teach school kids how to fire rifles and a desire to build a missile shield across northern Australia.

The House of Representatives crossbench grew to 17 in late 2022 when Andrew Gee quit the Nationals
in protest at its opposition to the Indigenous Voice
    to Parliament.

The Greens and independents make up 11 per cent of the 151-member lower
house – the highest proportion of non major party MPs since
    Federation in 1901.

    M. Night shot to fame in 1999 with his film The Sixth Sense, which celebrated turning 25-years-old in August.

Shyamalan recently opened up about that film’s impact on his career in an interview with People.

‘At this point, there’s so many generations of people that have watched [my] different movies,’ the director said.

He added that some, people ‘only know me from [2015 movie] The Visit from then on, so they don’t even know
about The Sixth Sense. So when I think about that, it’s wild.’

‘Each movie, I feel this way — that I don’t know if

Shyamalan, who was born in Mahé India but grew up in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, released
two films in the 1990s before The Sixth Sense.

That set off a string a big hits for the filmmaker that includes Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002) and The Village (2004), that ultimately ended with the release of Lady In The Water (2006), which barely covered
    the $70 million budget.

His biggest box office success was with The Sixth Sense, grossing $672.8 million while working with a $40 million budget 25
    years ago.

To date, the film made $6.6 million on its first day, including an estimated $2.2 million from the Thursday night previews.

  11. Des électeurs attendent l’ouverture d’un bureau de vote
à Windhoek, le 29 novembre 2024 en Namibie

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened
two days after a chaotic election, set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power,
    was marred by technical problems.

Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and
peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s
election was marked by long delays and labelled a “sham” by the opposition.

Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls,
billed as the toughest yet for the South West Africa
People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party, in power since Namibia’s
    1990 independence from South africa.

Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with tablets used
to register voters and shortages of ballot papers.

In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of batteries and mobile voting teams had left
areas with voters still in the queues, it said.

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended the vote
for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday
    evening to vote.

In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at 4:
    30 am.

The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as
he had exams the next day.

Des électeurs attendent l’ouverture d’un bureau de vote
à Windhoek, le 29 novembre 2024 en Namibie

“Everyone will have the chance to vote,” he said.
But because Namibians can vote at any given polling
station, he was worried “everyone will flock to one place again.”

The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with some calling for
a halt in the electoral process.

Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a joint statement,
according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party.

Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after independence
are challenging support towards SWAPO which has ruled since 1990.

Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who
could become the first woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented
second round in the mineral rich country.

“To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,” said voter Ensley Engermund, who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling stations.

“Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?” asked the 49-year-old security agent.

“It was to get people frustrated.”

  12. July 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International pushed the test-launch of
its heated tobacco device, IQOS, in the U.S.

to the fourth quarter on Tuesday and lowered its annual
forecast for the heated tobacco business.

The pilot was earlier scheduled to run in Austin,
Texas, in the second quarter, for which the company reported results on the day.

The company declined to comment on why the launch had been delayed.

Philip Morris has invested billions to promote and expand
its portfolio of alternatives to traditional combustible
cigarettes amid stricter regulations and falling smoking rates in some markets.

The launch of its flagship heated tobacco device in the United States is also facing resistance from health campaigners,
who have written to regulators in the country accusing the
company of misrepresenting past regulatory decisions, Reuters reported last week.

The company also awaits market authorization from the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration for its IQOS ILUMA device, which it expects by the second half of
    2025.

A ban on flavored heated tobacco in the European Union has already hit shipments
this year, with Philip Morris saying the impact from
the ban was “slightly greater” than previously assumed.

This led the company to temper its expectations for volume growth in the heated tobacco category to
around 13% for the full year, down from between 14% and 16% expected earlier.

However, Philip Morris topped quarterly expectations and raised its annual
sales and profit forecasts, betting on demand for its
Zyn nicotine pouches, as well as higher cigarette pricing.

  13. Damian Lillard made a driving layup with 3.9 seconds remaining and had a hand in the game’s final seven points as the Milwaukee Bucks eked out a 101-100 victory over the visiting Houston Rockets on Monday.

After Alperen Sengun (18 points, seven rebounds) gave
Houston a 100-94 lead by tipping in his miss with 1:58 to play, Lillard sank two free throws before assisting on an AJ
Green 3-pointer at the 1:17 mark. Lillard (18 points, 10 assists) converted the
game-winner after Giannis Antetokounmpo blocked a short jumper from Sengun with 19.1 seconds left.

Brook Lopez led the Bucks with 27 points and five 3-pointers while adding 10 rebounds and four
blocks. Antetokounmpo paired 20 rebounds with 13
rebounds to help Milwaukee snap the Rockets’ five-game winning streak.

Fred VanVleet scored a team-high 26 points including 17 in the third quarter to pull the Rockets back from a 14-point deficit.
He tallied 12 consecutive points for Houston and assisted
on a Sengun three-point play with 44.2 seconds left that cut the margin to 83-80 after three quarters.

Jalen Green took the baton from VanVleet to open the fourth, hitting a pair of 3s around an Aaron Holiday layup to lift
the Rockets to an 88-83 lead. Houston led by as many as seven in the final period before Lillard led the comeback
    in the waning moments

Green had 21 points — including 10 in the fourth quarter
    — and nine rebounds for Houston.

The Rockets scored the opening nine points of the game and extended
to a 13-point lead before Lopez engineered a comeback.
He recorded the Bucks’ first basket with a tip-in of a missed free throw from Antetokounmpo
and later drilled a pair of 3-pointers that, coupled with an Antetokounmpo layup, cut the deficit to 18-14 with 4:
    30 left in the period.

Lopez added another 3 before the close of the first and posted 13 points
in the period. Houston clung to a 28-27 lead entering the second but Bobby Portis erased
that margin with the first of six 3-pointers in the period for the Bucks.
Gary Trent Jr. nailed three of those 3s and when Antetokounmpo hit a jump hook in the lane, Milwaukee secured a 48-38 cushion.

Lopez and Trent each sank four 3-pointers in the first half and combined for 28 points to help Milwaukee to a 57-45 lead at the break.
While the Bucks hit 11 of 23 from deep before the break, the
Rockets were 0-for-5 on 3-pointers in the second and shot 26.9 percent overall in the period.

  14. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter to choose between an immigration crackdown and reproductive rights

As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire,
each major candidate has leaned heavily on a favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat
Kamala Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.

In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak,
with both topics the subject of fiercely debated ballot referendums.

And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500
votes — every ballot truly will count.

In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to persuade voters to back a
ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution — and,
while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.

To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed
by several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”

She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

Une pancarte barrée du slogan “L’indifférence aux élections est dangereuse”, à
Tucson, en Arizona, le 16 octobre 2024

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland,
a registered nurse, has worked in several states where abortion is banned or severely limited.

Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences for women having problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse
    to treat them.

“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” she
    told AFP.

    – ‘Abortion is murder’ –

As Ireland carries her message to potential voters,
she noted, particularly to young people who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who
appointed the three justices who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.

Donald Trump lors d’un meeting à Tempe, en Arizona, le 24 octobre
    2024

“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland said.

But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.

“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old college student.

“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions, he conceded, “but that’s very small.”

He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country from Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White
    House that activists hope.

Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona, with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.

Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both appear likely to pass.

So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.

Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to bring Trump back
to the White House, Brian said.

Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs. Republican issue,
the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns
    about “government interference,” she added.

also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said John Kavanagh,

specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing
of the border Biden ordered in recent months.

The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

  16. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter to
choose between an immigration crackdown and reproductive rights

As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire,
each major candidate has leaned heavily on a
favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat Kamala
Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.

In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak, with both topics the subject of fiercely debated ballot referendums.

And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500
votes — every ballot truly will count.

In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange
T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to persuade
voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution — and, while
they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.

To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”

She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a registered nurse,
has worked in several states where abortion is banned
    or severely limited.

As Ireland carries her message to potential voters,
she noted, particularly to young people who may be less likely
to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the three justices who
tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.

“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland said.

But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.

“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old college student.

“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions,
he conceded, “but that’s very small.”

He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country from Mexico during
    the Biden-Harris administration.

“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he
    said.

“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”

The resurgence reflects polka dots’ versatility –

Black and white dots are classic and easy to style.

Small dots are ideal for dresses or blouses, while

  20. ‘Tis the season for decadence and a touch of
sparkle – and what better way to bring festive cheer than a fridge full of fizz for parties
    and impromptu gatherings?

Champagne is admittedly my bubbly of choice – I love both poised, elegant styles with brisk acidity and
the richer, pastry-like, gastronomic pours. But with Christmas all about sharing,
    toasting, and big get-togethers, stocking
    up is essential.

Consumer group Which? has named Tesco Finest Premier Cru Brut Champagne the best Christmas
fizz, outclassing Moët & Chandon’s Brut Impérial.
The supermarket fizz costs just £25 a bottle, but many popular Champagnes are priced over £40.

With that in mind, I’m sharing my secrets for sparkling swaps that
keep both the palate and the wallet happy.

    Bollinger Champagne, £58

Swap for? Langlois Crémant Brut Réserve NV, £15.95

    Saving: £42.05 a bottle

For Bolly bling without the sting, head to the Loire Valley,
where the Bollinger family crafts this Crémant using the same traditional method as their Champagnes.
Made primarily from Chenin Blanc, which thrives in the
Loire, it undergoes 24 months of aging, delivering a Crémant
with depth that offers a charming twist on Bollinger’s rich Champagne style – with
    change to spare.

    Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne, £280

Swap for? Roederer Estate Quartet NV, £32

    Saving: £248 a bottle

Renowned producer Louis Roederer is the name behind the iconic Cristal
Champagne – a prized choice among celebrities, especially
when served in a flashy jeroboam, complete with sparklers in the ‘VIP
section’ of nightclubs. But if the £270 price tag brings tears to your eyes,
try Cristal’s Californian cousin, Quartet. Crafted in the cool Anderson Valley, it offers a taste of luxury for almost
    a tenth of the cost.

    Laurent Perrier Rosé Champagne, £80

Swap for? Morrisons The Best Crémant De Limoux Rosé NV, £12.50

    Saving: £67.50 a bottle

If you’re after something pink, grab this super chic
Crémant de Limoux from Morrisons – delivering luxe for less.
With a delicate effervescence and notes of strawberries and cream, it hints at pink Champagne at five times the price.
And here’s a little-known fact: legend has it that
the art of fizz was first discovered in Limoux, in the South of France – though our
    friends in Champagne may disagree.

    Ace of Spades Champagne, £315

Swap for? Segura Viudas Brut Vintage Premium Cava,
    £12

    Saving:  £303 a bottle

For showstopping-style on a shoestring, skip
Harrods, forget Jay-Z’s red-carpet-ready ‘Ace of Spades’ and head to Sainsbury’s for Segura Viudas premium cava, complete with a
shield that’s delightfully close to a spade. For the
price of one bottle of that Champagne, you could bag 26 bottles of this classy cava – and, honestly, after a few glasses,
    who’s noticing the difference?

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Champagne, £89

Swap for? Fortnum’s Franca Contea Franciacorta Brut NV, £26.50

    Saving: £62.50 a bottle

‘Blanc de Blancs’ meaning ‘white of whites’ is
the name for bubbles made solely from white grapes – typically Chardonnay in Champagne, delivering elegance and
finesse, à la Ruinart. Prices have crept
up as Blanc de Blancs become all the rage, but hop over the border to the hidden gem of
Franciacorta in Lombardy, northern Italy, and you’ll find
complex, vinous sips with plenty of flair, like this Fortnum’s pick.

    Pol Roger Champagne, £55

Swap for? Graham Beck Selection Sparkling Wine, £13.50

    Saving:  £41.50 a bottle

I served these delicious South African bubbles at my wedding – quaffed in record time,
with nobody realising it wasn’t Champagne.
As well as my own big day, Graham Beck has made an appearance
at state events for Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama, earning it the title of ‘presidential pick’ for sparkling wine.
And you’ll save a few quid compared to other
    politician favourites, like Pol Roger.

    Mumm Champagne, £39

Swap for? Mumm Marlborough Brut Prestige, £25

    Saving:  £14 a bottle

From Marlborough, New Zealand’s premier region and home of top Brit
sip, Sauvignon Blanc, comes a fresh take on fizz. Blessed with sunshine and a cool climate, Marlborough produces wines that are vibrant and crisp.
Here, a blend of traditional Champagne varieties – Chardonnay,
Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier – offers an easy-drinking, bright
character, and a great value sub for Mumm’s beloved bubbles.

    Veuve Clicquot Champagne, £48

Swap for? Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut NV, £14.99

    Saving:  £33.01 a bottle

First launched over a decade ago at £12.99, Aldi has miraculously kept their best-selling Veuve Monsigny Champagne under £15.
For a sprightly, quaffable style, it’s unbeatable at that price –
perfect for Buck’s Fizz at Christmas Day brunch, canapés, and a refreshing post-turkey
sip. It’s worth mentioning that the Premier Cru label at £21.99 is a real step up and fantastic value too.

    Moët & Chandon Champagne, £44

Swap for? Chandon Brut Argentina, £23

    Saving: £21 a bottle

From Champagne giant Moët & Chandon, Chandon Brut is
a Champagne-style bubbly from Mendoza, Argentina. If you’re
thinking Mendoza is known for its hot climate and big,
bold Malbec reds, think again – Chandon’s vineyards are situated in the
foothills of the Andes at over 1,000 metres, where cooling influences help
retain that desirable freshness in the grapes.

The Love star, 40, who is plugging her new series Transatlantic,
ended up weighing in on the Vanderpump Rules Scandoval
alongside guest Lala Kent during a fun-filled interview.

The Community alum looked ready for anything in a long, short-sleeved, ribbed cranberry dress with pink stripes down the sides and pink detailing at the waist
and a high slit up one leg.

The Seven Faces of Jane star wore pointy-toed pale pink pumps with the dress and carried an LL
    Bean-style tote bag.

Her long, blonde hair was styled in a Veronica Lake hairstyle.

Her makeup was dramatic and her lip color matched her unique dress.

Scandoval: during a Wednesday appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the Love star, 40, ended
up weighing in on the Vanderpump Rules Scandoval alongside guest Lala Kent

WWHL host Andy Cohen fired questions at the Ibiza star, asking her if she thinks Raquel Leviss actually
thought she had chemistry with Tom Schwartz.

Gillian said no. She also revealed that she’s a VPR viewer and appreciates all
the context the newest episodes have given to the off screen drama that’s been dominating pop culture news
    since March 3.

And when it comes to who she blames more for the
affair between Raquel and Tom Sandoval, she agreed with the most
of the rest of the world and said, ‘Sandoval.’

But Lala brought up a good point, saying the blame is on both of their shoulders since Raquel was best
friends with Sandoval’s girlfriend of nearly a decade,
    Ariana Madix.

When Cohen asked the Fear Street actress if she thought Raquel and Sandoval would
last, she screwed up her face in disgust and said, ‘Um, no.’

Currently, Gillian is playing Mary Jayne Gold, a real-life Chicago heiress who worked to rescue European Jews, intellectuals, and artists, during World War II in Transatlantic on Netflix.

‘I think that she felt compelled to help in any way that
she could,’ she said of her character in an interview with Town and Country.

‘Certainly in our version of the telling of it, initially, what she feels
like she has to offer is her money, her wealth.’

She added: ‘The story that we’re telling is that she’s also
realizing that she has more to offer beyond that’.

‘In real life and in Transatlantic, she was an incredibly wealthy woman who had this unique
ability in this moment to help out and she chose
    to do that.’

‘I read a quote from her saying that this was the most important year
of her life,’ she said of the real life Mary Jane. ‘This was
the year of her life that was the most consequential and important.

‘She lived a long life but I think that this was really, the most important period of her life.
I tried to not have foreknowledge—you don’t want to

‘I think even at the time, she had a recognition of that to some degree.’

Earlier this year, the Pittsburgh native debuted the Seven Faces of Jane, an anthology comprised of eight short films all starring the actress as the main character.

The anthology has eight different directors, including Jacobs along with Ken Jeong, Gia Coppola, Ryan Heffington, Alexandra Cassavetes, Boma Iluma, Julian Acosta and Alex Takacs.

The cast includes the likes of Emanuela Postacchini, Anthony Skordi, Leticia LaBelle,

Caroline Ducrocq, Breeda Wool, Soledad St. Hilaire, Joni Reiss and Paris Nicole.

(Recasts with analyst comments, adds bullets)

    SHANGHAI/SINGAPORE, Dec 10 (Reuters) – China’s November copper
imports hit a one-year high, customs data showed on Tuesday,
fueled by firm demand and lower inventories, as well as more
    shipments from Africa.

Imports of unwrought copper and products stood at 528,000 tons last month,
up 4.3% from October’s imports, data from the General Administration of
    Customs showed.

The figure was the highest since last November, when imports reached 550,566 tons.

The data includes anode, refined, alloy and semi-finished copper products.

“Copper consumption has been quite good this year, as evidenced by the home appliance production data in China,” said Zhao
Yongcheng, a principal analyst at Benchmark Mineral Intelligence (BMI).

Manufacturing and service activities in the world’s top metals
consumer both expanded at moderate rates last month, as shown by
    official and private surveys.

Domestic inventories declined further over the past month
amid robust demand for the metal used widely in the power, construction and transportation sectors.

Deliverable copper stocks on the Shanghai Futures Exchange <CU-STX-SGH> fell last month to a nine-month
low of 108,775 tons on Nov. 29, down 29% from 153,221 tons on Nov.

    1.

The higher imports came amid a drop in copper prices, in China and globally,
as investors sold off bullish positions on the potential
for tariffs under U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and disappointment over the lack of aggressive Chinese stimulus.

Meanwhile, there was an increase in copper shipments
from Africa, mainly from the assets owned by Chinese companies like CMOC Group, Zhao said.

For the first 11 months of the year, unwrought copper imports totalled 5.13 million tons, a
year-on-year increase of 1.7%, the data showed.

Imports of copper concentrate last month stood at 2.25 million tons, down 7.8%
    from a year earlier.

Copper concentrate imports totalled 25.6 million tons for the first 11 months,
up 2.2% from a year earlier. (Reporting by Violet Li in Shanghai

as ‘terrible’ and ‘the worst film ever made’.

The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Lady Gaga as Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn), faced negative reviews from critics before its October
4 release and flopped at the box office.

Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd
Philips’s new film has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew
it was ‘going to bomb’ while filming.

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast,
Tim said: ‘It’s the worst film ever made.

‘I think what happened, after the first Joker,
there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels.
This was loved by the wrong kinds of people.
This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!
    All these think pieces.

Tim Dillon, who makes a brief appearance in Joker: Folie à Deux, has described the new sequel as
‘terrible’ and ‘the worst film ever made’

The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix
as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Lady Gaga as Lee Quinzel (Harley
Quinn), faced negative reviews from critics before its October 4 release and flopped
    at the box office

‘And then I think, ‘What if we went the other way,’ and now they have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing to a point where it’s insane.’

He continued: ‘It has no plot. We would sit there, me and these other
guys were all dressed in these security outfits because we’re working at the Arkham Asylum, and I would turn to one of
them and we’d hear this crap and I’d go, ‘What the
f*** is this?’ And they’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst
    thing I’ve ever seen.’

‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, ‘What is the plot?
Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with
her in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable.
    That’s how terrible it is.’

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media after its
release last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019
    motion picture.

The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good enough for the
weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and half that of its predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter
nature of sequels to introduce a musical element not present in the first film, with Lady
    Gaga joining the franchise.

‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive as people are
making it out to be. I love that the film didn’t try to
be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other
    crowd pleasing aspects.’

Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2.

I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical
elements were a lot of fun.’

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social
media after its release last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture

One user marvelled that Joker 2 is ‘getting universal hate despite
being more interesting and creative than anything marvel has done in years is expected.’

It comes after lead star Lady Gaga was left ‘disappointed’ at the
immense flood of negative reactions to Joker: Folie à Deux, with the singer’s team now keen to quickly push out other projects to help distract from the
furore over the film, insiders claim.

Todd Phillips‘ sequel has bombed, raking in just under $40 million at the domestic box office, and receiving the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history.

Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack of love for her turn as Harleen Lee Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker
    – a role that won him the best actor Oscar in 2019 –
in the wake of the standing ovation it received at the Venice Film Festival last month.

‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t
love it after the response it received from critics before it premiered,’
    a source exclusively told DailyMail.com.

‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so much respect for the DC comics
    fan base.’

They added: ‘Her team is quietly looking at other projects they
can roll out as they want to move on this from as quickly as possible.’

flood of negative reactions to Joker: Folie à Deux, with the singer’s team now keen to quickly push out other projects to help distract from
the furor over the film, insiders claim

But despite the lacklustre reception from fans, a second
source claimed she is not letting it deter her from returning to the big screen, with the singer
said to be eyeing up a Quentin Tarantino movie.

‘She is disappointed that Joker is pretty much a bomb,’
    they said.

‘She thought that this film could get her an Oscar nomination, especially since the first film was such a success
    and Joaquin won an Oscar.

‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and
final film. Nobody knows what that is going to be, but she wants
    to audition.

‘She’s going to lobby hard to get a meeting with him once a script
is presented, it is a bucket list moment for her
    to be involved.’

  26. Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up
store offering shoppers ‘incredible’ deals on clothing, homewares,
    food, and electronics.

The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help shoppers get through the cost of living crisis ravaging the
    country.

Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity that works to provide support and assistance to people in need.

Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate
    partners including Christmas decorations.

Popular bargains include $10 large jars of Biscoff, $2 bags of
Red Rock Deli chips, and discounted shoes from
    Boston Bros.

    Shoppers will find men’s, women’s, and children’s
clothing, shoes from top brands, and even electrical goods at the Vinnies pop-up locations.

Many have purchased vacuums, air fryers, Adidas shoes, printers, and kitchen knives from previous pop-up shops.

There is presently a location in Ascot Vale which is open until
3 November, and another in Boronia which will remain open until Christmas – or until stock
    runs out.

and discounted shoes from Boston Bros

A new store will open in Richmond at Dimmey’s on 7
    November.

The themed Richmond location will focus on goods for Christmas, summer, and
the holiday season – but it will also include household
    items, Bric-à-brac, and electrical items.

Shoppers have shared their thoughts on the pop-up locations online.

‘They have all the trending products – it’s so awesome,’ one said.

‘I bought a hair dryer from Vinnies and I’m obsessed with it,’ another wrote.

‘I always have such good luck at Vinnies, I have to go,’ a woman added.

For those interested in the finer things, shoppers have discovered a ‘hidden gem’
discount retailer where you can find designer buys from brands like Fendi, Dior,
    and Aje for affordable prices.

TK Maxx – which has stores in New South
Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia – is the answer to buying
new clothes and shoes on a budget.

TK Maxx has stores in New South Wales , Victoria, Queensland and
    South Australia

Beth Zazlan, from Queensland, recently found a gold mine of clothing lines from Australian brands like Camilla and Marc, Acler, Bec+Bridge, Shona Joy,
    Dion Lee, Zimmerman, and Acler.

‘I was there for a pillow but I ended up grabbing some sparkly earrings from [American jewellery brand] Badgley Mischka,’ Beth told FEMAIL.

TK Maxx sells old stock from previous seasons – and shoppers
have described it as a ‘clearance treasure hunt’.

Many have seen bags from Fendi, Dior, and Bottega Venetta on sale.

Others have spotted Gucci and Versace sunglasses, Hugo Boss
    accessories, and Christopher Esber dresses.

Beth said, ‘I was truly blown away – so if you’re looking for a bargain, head there.’

A David Jones employee revealed in a comment that discounted items from stores that
aren’t sold are shipped to TK Maxx.

Audacious, different, bold and brilliant! Joker: Folie a Deux is a punchline five years
in the making, and boy is it worth the wait, writes BRIAN VINER

Five years have passed since the triumphant opening of Joker at the Venice Film Festival.
I still vividly remember reeling out of a morning screening, dazzled less by the unforgiving glare of the
Venetian sun than by the movie we’d just been shown.

Five years have passed since the triumphant opening
of Joker at the Venice Film Festival. I still vividly
remember reeling out of a morning screening, dazzled less by the unforgiving glare of the Venetian sun than by the
    movie we’d just been shown.

Last night, here in Venice, came the world premiere
of the sequel, Joker: Folie a Deux The director is again Todd Phillips, with
Joaquin Phoenix once more in the title role, this time joined by Lady Gaga as what
I suppose we must call the love interest, although that would undervalue her wonderful performance.

The film is audaciously different in style from the original, not quite as electrifying, but
bold and brilliant all the same.

It begins with a kind of sinister jauntiness with a Joker animation in the style of a Tom & Jerry cartoon,
to show that since the events of the first movie, Arthur Fleck along with his murderous alter ego has become a cultural
phenomenon in Gotham City. There has even been a TV movie about him.

Joaquin Phoenix is once more in the title role, this time joined by Lady Gaga
as what I suppose we must call the love interest, although that would undervalue her wonderful
    performance

The film is audaciously different in style from the original, not
quite as electrifying, but bold and brilliant all the same

Joker: Folie a Deux is released on October 4, 2024 and will premiere at the 81st annual Venice Film Festival

But Arthur is behind bars, waiting to see whether he will be judged sane
enough to stand trial for murder, and in the meantime enjoying
his celebrity status both with fellow prisoners and even the warders, one of whom, a sadistic Irishman played by Brendan Gleeson, feeds him
    cigarettes in return for jokes.

Lady Gaga plays Lee, a fellow inmate on her way, we suppose, to
becoming Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn. The pair hit it off at a music
therapy class, and are soon mutually smitten, but Lee makes it
clear that she loves the dangerously charismatic Joker, ‘clown prince of crime’, not the gloomily introspective Arthur.

Indeed, identity confusion is the theme of this film, which delves even deeper than the
original into schizophrenia and other types of mental illness.

It’s been said that Folie a Deux is a musical.
It’s not, but music looms large as an expression of Arthur and Lee’s burgeoning love for one another.
It is while watching Vincente Minnelli’s 1953 classic The Band Wagon that Lee,
who claims to have been imprisoned for arson, sets fire to their prison wing.

The ensuing chaos provides an excellent opportunity to escape, yet Phillips and
his co-writer Scott Silver toy with our expectations throughout; each time we anticipate which way the narrative is going to go, it confounds us by wheeling off in another direction.

The music is a constant, though, with Lady Gaga giving her interpretation of lovely old
Burt Bacharach and even Motown numbers, and Phoenix more than holding his own.
There are also a couple of swooning dance routines that make Arthur and Lee
look like psychotic versions of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in La La Land.

Eventually, after Arthur’s high-profile TV appearance with a smug interviewer played by Steve Coogan, it is time for the trial, with all of Gotham gripped by the
    subject of multiple personality disorder.

Is Arthur the defendant accused of five murders, or is it Joker?
    His kindly lawyer (Catherine Keener) wants to make clear it is Arthur;
Lee just as urgently wants him to identify as Joker.

Lady Gaga plays Lee, a fellow inmate on her way, we suppose, to becoming Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn

For those cinema-goers who consider Joker: Folie a Deux to be just another
unnecessary Batman spin-off, you should maybe think again

All this is compellingly directed by Phillips, and superbly acted by Phoenix especially, in a role for which he seems custom-made, but by Gaga too.

We’ve known since A Star is Born in 2018 that she can act,
but she really is terrific in a bad-girl role. They’d have loved her at St
    Trinians.

As for those cinema-goers who consider Joker: Folie a Deux to
be just another unnecessary Batman spin-off,
    you should maybe think again.

This might not quite be in the top rank of films about
mental illness, alongside all-time greats such as Psycho and
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. But it’s not
    too far off.

Joker: Folie a Deux opens in the UK on October
    4, 2024.

  30. LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday unveiled a zero-tobacco stick for use with its
“heat-not-burn” device IQOS, which may help the company avoid tax and other regulations that affect its tobacco products in some
    markets.

IQOS heats up small packets of ground up tobacco resembling cigarettes but does not burn them, a process the company says potentially
results in fewer health risks compared to smoking.

Now, PMI has developed a range of sticks, which it calls LEVIA, that do not contain tobacco but a “non-tobacco substrate” infused with nicotine, with
flavours including tobacco, menthol with blueberry and peppermint.

Chief Executive Officer Jacek Olczak said during
an investor day presentation that as well as offering
another alternative to consumers who may not wish
to use tobacco, the product may avoid the heavy taxes or other controls imposed on its other products.

LEVIA “may not be subject to flavour regulations in some jurisdictions” and “doesn’t fit” in existing fiscal categories, Olczak continued, adding PMI was in discussions with regulators in some target markets
on how they would approach it.

The company advocates for lower taxes for products referred to by the industry as “reduced risk” compared
    to traditional cigarettes.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorised PMI to market IQOS as offering
reduced exposure to harmful chemicals versus smoking, though the
World Health Organisation says there is currently no evidence that heated tobacco
has lower health risks than other tobacco products.

A PMI spokesman declined to provide additional details on when and where LEVIA could launch, or what substance replaces the tobacco.

Some niche companies have developed heat sticks made from tea leaves instead of tobacco,
which they sell for use with major players’ “heat-not-burn” technology – a headache for big companies that want only their own sticks to be compatible with their
devices. (Reporting by Emma Rumney; editing by Barbara Lewis)
