Mayor Bill de Blasio needs to be officially declared the poster boy of liberal insanity. Bill is from the Big Apple, but if conservatives want to demonstrate how liberals really think, then on a national level Bill de Blasio should be kept front and center as the quintessential example of liberal logic.
The newest illustration of Bill ‘Tale of Two Cities’ de Blasio’s twisted reasoning is his refusal to march in Fifth Avenue’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade because organizers, who by and large are Catholic, refuse to allow gay pride signs in an event celebrating what is basically a religious holiday.
Why anyone would need to carry a gay pride sign in a parade that’s supposed to be about the patron saint of Ireland is a question Hizzoner, who reportedly cured his wife Chirlane McCray of lesbianism, really needs to answer.
This is the same bunch that would probably forbid Christian t-shirts in public schools because of separation of church and state but applaud Muslim girls wearing hijabs to class.
Liberals don’t seem to get that LBGTs wanting to carry gay pride signs in a Catholic saint’s parade is sort of like a delegation from American atheists asking to march behind the Virgin Mary statue at the annual Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy.
Moreover, if equity were really the mayor’s goal, then to be fair de Blasio would have to stand up for all the heterosexual marchers who might want to carry traditional marriage signs in the Gay Pride parade.
He won’t. I would wager on it.
But here’s where the liberal-logic teachable moment comes in: Muslim defender Bill de Blasio is attempting to make a statement about gay discrimination and is using the St. Patrick’s Day parade to do it. Yet what he chooses to ignore is Islam’s extreme positions on homosexuality and abortion, which make the Catholic Church’s moral stance on those issues look like child’s play.
Earth to de Blasio! Under sharia law, homosexuals are flogged, hung, stoned, and/or beheaded.
The mayor said, “I will be participating in a number of other events to honor the Irish heritage of this city and the contributions of Irish Americans, but I simply disagree with the organizers of that parade in their exclusion of some individuals in this city.”
Clearly, Mr. de Blasio is unaware that St. Patty’s Day parade organizers welcomed gays to march, but simply felt that signage celebrating gay pride detracts from a parade whose emphasis is supposed to be on honoring Irish heritage.
Besides, would the Dykes on Bikes really fit in, positioned between the Irish Step Dancers and the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums?
That won’t work. Since gays know exactly how Muslims feel about them, there is zero chance they will demand to carry “We’re here. We’re queer. Get used to it” signs in the Muslim Day Parade.
So it’s doubtful that Mayor de Blasio will take a stand later this year and demand that gays be given an option to march in the Muslim Day parade and for the sake of parade parity call out Muslim organizers for their “exclusion of some individuals in this city.”
Now, what can be learned about liberals from de Blasio’s example?
That’s easy: Progressives of Bill de Blasio’s ilk fail to see the contradiction in adding two official holidays to the NYC public school calendar to commemorate virulently homophobic Islam one day, and then the next day refusing to march in a Catholic parade that merely bans gay signs, not gay people.
