Helen Thomas is like a senile granny you take to a barbeque who exposes everyone by blurting out long held family secrets.
No one should be shocked by Helen’s remark that Jews should “get out of Palestine.” Thomas, daughter of Lebanese immigrants, was just articulating the feelings of the Obama administration.
The Helen Thomas controversy arose during a Jewish Heritage celebration, when the octogenarian was questioned by Rabbi David Nesenoff for RabbiLIVE.com. The Rabbi asked Thomas, “Any comments on Israel, we’re asking everybody today?”
Thomas’s response; “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.” Rabbi Nesenoff respectfully replied, “Whoa. Any better comments on Israel?” Obviously not, because Thomas railed on, “Remember these people are occupied and it’s their land. It’s not German and it’s not Polish.”
The Rabbi’s retort, “So where should they go? What should they do?” Without wavering, Thomas shot back, “Go home.” Asked where “home” was, Helen suggested, “Poland. Germany. And America and everywhere else.”
Helen Thomas was at ease making anti-Israeli comments on Jewish Heritage Day, because the White House press matriarch is surrounded on all sides with those who agree. Haven’t Obama’s actions and rhetoric expressed a similar viewpoint?
Prior to the election Barry made the following comment, ““Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people.” Helen Thomas would heartily agree.
Then in Cairo a few months after the inauguration the President set the good Palestine, bad Israel tone by expressing sympathy for the “daily humiliations, large and small, that come with occupation.” Obama said Americans “will not turn our backs on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity and a state of their own.”
So, what’s with all the uproar? Grandma Thomas was just expressing sentiments conveyed by Barry’s flotilla full of harsh criticism for Israel.
Pro-Palestinian Obama has pressed the Jewish state to reverse the controversial choice to “build housing units in East Jerusalem and to commit to substantive negotiations with the Palestinians to repair the damaged peace process.”
Statesman Netanyahu has been beckoned to the White House numerous times where Benjamin has been subjected repeatedly to Barack Hussein’s disparagement of Israel in favor of Palestine.
Take for example the occasion where Netanyahu arrived at the White House, assured that the “worst of the crisis in his country’s relationship with the United States was over.” The Israeli prime minister was “feted by senior Republicans and greeted warmly by members of Congress. He received a standing ovation from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.”
However, Barack was “less inclined to be so conciliatory.” During their meeting, Obama “presented Netanyahu with a list of 13 demands designed both to the end the feud with his administration [by agreeing to build] Palestinian confidence ahead of the resumption of peace talks. Key among those demands was a previously made call to halt all new settlement construction in east Jerusalem. “
“When the Israeli prime minister stalled” in his response, a dismissive Obama stood up in the middle of the discussion and declared: “I’m going to the residential wing to have dinner with Michelle and the girls,” leaving the humiliated Prime minister sitting there.
Newspaper reports recounted that “The atmosphere so soured by the end of the evening, the Israelis decided that they could not trust the telephone line [and] went to the Israeli Embassy to ensure that the Americans were not listening in.”
Helen Thomas merely verbalized Barack’s true feelings towards the Jewish state. It may be wiser for Netanyahu to take Thomas’s Germany-Poland suggestion than for the Prime Minister of Israel to attend another pro-Palestinian meeting in Obama’s blatantly antagonistic White House.
